Here are some of the accomplishments of Alabama Project LAUNCH over the last five years:

Screening & Assessment: Help Me Grow Alabama

  • 7,099 children screened of these 784 enrolled in HMGA
  • 43,000 books provided to children in Tuscaloosa in partnership with Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Reach out & Read Program.

Integration of Behavioral Health into Primary Care

  • During the first four years, LAUNCH worked with five pediatric practices on screening and assessment. All five refer to Help Me Grow Alabama and two of the practices use the ASQ Enterprise system.  During the five years of LAUNCH these two practices executed 5,035 screens.
  • In the fifth year of LAUNCH, an IECMH Consultant was embedded in a local pediatric practice.  During this pilot project, 84 individual consultations were preformed and 53 of them were recommended and performed during a well child appointment.

 IECMH Consultation

At the beginning of LAUNCH, Alabama had no IECMH Consultants.  At the end of LAUNCH, Alabama had two consultants, an IECMH Association (First 5 Alabama) with 30 endorsees and an IECMH State Coordinator.  In addition, Alabama Department of Mental Health has secured funding to provide five IECMH Consultants in each of its regions with three additional consultants to be secured through Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education funding.

Enhanced Home Visiting

APL IECMH consultants in Tuscaloosa provided consultation to the two MIECHV funded programs in the Tuscaloosa area as well as two Early Intervention programs.

Family Strengthening and Parent Skills Training

  • Provided parent leadership training as well as Smart & Secure Child Training
  • Provided training at APL’s Professional Development Institute with a Parent Track
  • Held a Family Summit in 2019
  • Created a family advisory committee of Young Child Wellness Council
  • Participated in SAMHSA’s Family Summit in February of 2018 which started the National Early Childhood Family Network. Alabama has two seats on the Steering Committee of the Network and APC’s own Tish MacInnis is the chair.
  • An average of 760 individuals have attended Read and Romp Tuscaloosa
  • During the course of Alabama Project LAUNCH, 48 different professional development events have occurred with a total of 5,406 people being trained.

Alabama Project LAUNCH would like to thank everyone for a successful five years!
